Second Indian business delegation visits Shanghai in renewed engagement push

Less than two weeks after the first high-level industry outreach in Shanghai, a second major Indian business delegation has travelled to China, signalling a cautious but clear revival of economic engagement between the two sides after a prolonged gap.

The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) delegation, led by its president Rajiv Memani, held interactions with leading Chinese industry representatives in Shanghai on April 9, focusing on expanding bilateral trade, investment and technology partnerships aligned with India’s long-term growth vision.

The engagement, hosted by the Consulate General of India in Shanghai, brought together top Indian industry leaders and prominent Chinese businesses, with discussions centred on building resilient supply chains and enhancing cooperation in key sectors.

In his address, Consul General Pratik Mathur highlighted India’s ongoing economic transformation under the “Viksit Bharat” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” initiatives, stressing that policy reforms aimed at improving ease of doing business, strengthening digital public infrastructure and boosting manufacturing competitiveness have opened new avenues for global collaboration. He pointed to India’s Production Linked Incentive schemes as a major driver of manufacturing growth and said eastern China could emerge as a key partner in co-developing industrial ecosystems and scaling investments.
